A Rocky Year for Dr Disrespect
2024 was a disastrous year for Dr Disrespect, also known as Guy Beahm. The former face of Twitch revealed the reason behind his ban from the top streaming platform—he had exchanged inappropriate messages with a minor on Twitch. While he managed to continue his career on YouTube, his admission led to demonetization and the loss of various partnerships, including NBA 2k24.
Uncertain Future
This situation cast doubt on Dr Disrespect’s ability to continue streaming. With his Twitch ban firmly in place and his YouTube channel earning nothing, he seemed on the verge of being pushed to the industry’s fringes. But things have now changed for the better.
Re-Monetization Announcement
During a YouTube stream, Dr Disrespect emotionally announced that his channel had been re-monetized. He shared the news with his fans, saying, “Champs, we’ve got some fantastic news today…monetization is back. We’ve got to set up, we’ve got to regulate certain things regarding donations on YouTube…but ladies and gentlemen, we got our YouTube monetization back.”
Irony of Timing
Interestingly, this re-monetization news came at the same time as the closure of Midnight Society—a game development studio that had partnered with Dr Disrespect on an NFT-focused battle royale shooter.
Career Discussions and Negotiations
Dr Disrespect’s career has been a hot topic, partly due to his many detractors. Alongside his Twitch ban, he was involved in public negotiations over a potential move to Kick. Although Kick made a significant offer, Dr Disrespect chose to stay focused on YouTube. Following his revelation about the reason for his ban, Kick executives stated they would no longer pursue a contract with him.
New Opportunities with Rumble
Dr Disrespect received a substantial boost when he signed a contract with Rumble. As part of the deal, he will receive equity in the platform after reaching milestones and has an advisory role in the company’s gaming division.
Future Streaming Plans
Despite his demonetization, Dr Disrespect has continued to stream on YouTube multiple times each week. His channel being re-monetized ensures that he will likely remain on YouTube instead of going exclusive with Rumble. For now, it also closes the door on him signing a deal with Kick or another emerging streaming platform.
