Nvidia has released a significant update to its GeForce Game Ready drivers. This update not only includes DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation support for 75 games and applications but also introduces the previously unannounced Smooth Motion feature.
What is Smooth Motion?
Smooth Motion is an AI-based frame generation system built into the driver. This technology is exclusively available to owners of the new GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards. It creates an additional frame between two rendered frames, ensuring smoother gameplay even in games that do not support DLSS Frame Generation.
How Smooth Motion Works
Smooth Motion operates with both DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 games, working at native resolution and with various scaling technologies. This effectively doubles the perceived frame rate, providing a much smoother gaming experience.

Activating Smooth Motion
To activate Smooth Motion, navigate to the Nvidia settings for a specific game under Graphics > Program Settings and select the option in Driver Settings.
Nvidia vs. AMD: AI Innovations
Essentially, this solution is Nvidia’s answer to AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames 2 technology. However, Nvidia’s approach leverages a full-fledged AI model, which is characteristic of the company’s strategy in developing artificial intelligence solutions.
Additional Features in the Driver Update
Game Optimizations
The driver update also includes optimizations for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Improvements to RTX Video Super Resolution
With the update, RTX Video Super Resolution sees improvements via a more efficient AI model that uses up to 30% less GPU resources.
HDR Video Scaling and New GPU Utilization Feature
Support for HDR video scaling has been added, along with a new GPU Utilization feature that allows for automatic quality adjustments.
