Dune: Awakening MMO Sandbox — Funcom’s Largest Project to Date—Set for Release in First Half of 2025

Following the recent press reveal of the MMO sandbox Dune: Awakening, questions have arisen about the game’s exact release date. Although Funcom previously announced an “early 2025” release, executive producer Scott Junior clarified that this timeline could extend to the entire first half of 2025, meaning the game could launch as late as July.

It’s important to note that this release will be on PC via Steam, with console versions to follow later. Unlike many early-access titles, Dune: Awakening will launch directly in version 1.0, despite having been in closed beta testing for about a year.

Funcom also provided details about the game’s business model. According to Junior, Dune: Awakening will not be free-to-play and will not require a subscription. Instead, the game will likely have a premium price tag ranging from $70 to $100, depending on the edition.

This project is Funcom’s most ambitious undertaking yet, with over 400 people working on the game over the past five years. In terms of scale, Dune: Awakening surpasses both The Secret World and Age of Conan, and the development team is several times larger than the one that created the successful Conan Exiles in 2017.

Combining survival elements with MMO mechanics, Dune: Awakening aims to offer a fresh take on the MMO genre and promises to be the closest adaptation of the Dune universe to date.
