Following the announcement at The Game Awards 2024, Gearbox is set to showcase Borderlands 4 gameplay in the coming days. Some exciting features like crossplay and local two-player co-op have already been confirmed, but senior producer Anthony Nicholson emphasizes that the heart of the series—guns—will be front and center.
The Core of Borderlands: An Arsenal of Guns
Billions of Weapons and Customization Options
In an interview with GamesRadar, Nicholson revealed that the team is tirelessly adding new guns, manufacturers, legendary weapons, and customization options. This results in “billions of weapons and accessories” for players to use. While longtime fans may groan at the thought of sifting through mountains of loot, the sheer variety promises endless possibilities.
Enhancements to the Rarity System
Creating Exciting Moments
When discussing changes to the rarity system, Nicholson explained that Gearbox aims to “create exciting moments when rare weapons, items, or something completely unexpected drops.” This means players will still discard much of their loot, but the journey to find the perfect items will be more thrilling.
Upcoming Gameplay Reveal
Borderlands 4 is scheduled to release this year for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. Although 2K hasn’t announced an exact date yet, it’s clear that the game won’t launch simultaneously with Grand Theft Auto 6, which is still set for a fall release.
