Brazilian esports club MIBR announced a major shake-up within its roster and coaching staff following a disappointing start to the season. The team has suspended its captain, André “drop” Abreu, and parted ways with head coach Bruno “BIT” Fukuda Lima.
Early Season Struggles
MIBR’s performance has been underwhelming, as the team was eliminated in the 1/32 finals of BLAST Bounty, placed 9-12th in the first stage of IEM Katowice, and suffered a defeat in the Swiss stage of PGL Cluj-Napoca with a score of 1:3. This series of setbacks prompted the organization to reassess its strategy and make significant changes.
South American Qualifiers
Between their international tournaments in Poland and Romania, MIBR returned to Brazil to participate in the South American qualifiers for BLAST Open Lisbon. The team finished in second place, losing to Imperial in the final match. Despite the effort, it wasn’t enough to secure a spot in Lisbon, further highlighting the need for change.
Statement from André “drop” Abreu
In a heartfelt post on X, André “drop” Abreu revealed that he personally requested to be moved to the reserve roster. The 21-year-old player, who became the team captain in the summer of 2024, led MIBR to the semifinals of ESL Pro League Season 20 and the knockout stage of the Shanghai Major.
“Things weren’t going the way we wanted them to, and I wasn’t feeling my best, both on and off the field,” he wrote. “It was time to take a break, work through some personal issues, and come back stronger.”
Farewell to Bruno “BIT” Fukuda Lima
Bruno “BIT” Fukuda Lima’s tenure with MIBR spanned almost three years. He joined the organization in April 2022 as head coach, later becoming a strategic mentor, and in early 2025, he returned to lead the team after the resignation of Renato “nak” Nakano.
In his post on X, Bruno “BIT” Fukuda Lima acknowledged the toll that overworking had taken on him since Nakano’s departure.
“The last few weeks have been tough, but know that I have been giving my all every day to help the team achieve its goals – as a coach, mentor, psychologist, analyst or whoever I needed to be. I understand the fans’ discontent, and in many ways, I agree with them. Believe me, I have done everything I could to build the coaching staff we all dreamed of.”
Looking Ahead: New Roster and Coach
MIBR announced that they will soon reveal the name of a new player. According to Dust2 Brasil, the club plans to reinstate reserve player Bren “brnz4n” Poletto to the main roster and appoint Jonathan “jnt” Silva as the new head coach. This decision reflects the club’s commitment to rejuvenating the team and achieving better results in future competitions.
